Our purpose for writing to you is to reaffirm the reason why the Coalition of the Concerned was formed and why it still exists today. We continue to be concerned about the perceptions which we expressed in the open letter to the Cedarville University faculty, administration, and trustees this past January. We encourage you to join with us in this effort to bring resolution, reconciliation, and revival to the University. As stated elsewhere, we are encouraged by the recent clarification of the Truth and Certainty Statement by the Board of Trustees.
Information you may have received has inferred that the Coalition is composed of "grumpy old men". In reality, we have heard from many others who also have observed that the University has taken a direction that has resulted in the beginning of a drift away from the historic conservative theological based foundationalism for which Cedarville has been known over the years. We urge a return to our historic theological foundationalism rooted in the Scriptures.
We, the Coalition, came into being for the purpose of not only calling attention to the issues and concerns that face the University, but also to be part of the solution. Cedarville University has held a unique niche in Christian higher education as a place where students would be challenged to think within its historic theological position. We want this process to continue. We grieve that we have colleagues who have been terminated, or resigned, or retired due to this turnabout in the Cedarville culture.
